We need more than prayers and reflection
The outcry for change
Somehow we have convinced ourselves that injustices don’t exist anymore. That, miraculously, at the turn of the 21st century, humanity transcended into perfection. Any ill-fortune that happens worldwide is more frequently dismissed as a tragedy before we go about our daily life.
We have distanced ourselves from the issues affecting the world. Our way of dealing with issues such as racial injustice is to reflect, express our condolences and move on with our daily life, soon to be forgotten in distant memories. Only those directly impacted are left to suffer or cry for justice, only to be dismissed as unruly and unfounded.
We detach ourselves from others, propagating the individualism that infects our world.
Enacting change
Our inability to honestly acknowledge the injustices in our world today prevents us from enacting change. Somehow, we have convinced ourselves that any flaws of humanity happened in the distant past, detaching ourselves from responsibility and deflecting it to our ancestors, limiting our progress for a better future.
Our society is incapable of believing we are flawed. The ego makes us think we’re progressing towards perfection…
